Winformation This Week...
It’s Boxing Day. So, I have 2 huge (slightly late) Christmas presents for you legends. Firstly, picking up from last week’s edition where we reviewed your 2025 and set your vision for 2026. Today, we complete the planning for your best ever year, going all in on goal setting in today’s One Idea to Win in Life. Once you read the goal setting process below, hit reply with the one goal that would define your 2026 if you nailed it.
Secondly...and I’m excited for this one, I’m offering 2 of you the chance to jump on a Zoom call with me in January, separately. Full details of how to be considered for that is listed below in today’s One Idea to Win in Business.
I’m genuinely excited for your 2026. The world is demanding more successful people, your community needs great employers and people prepared to step up and be role models. And, if you become that person, you and your family deserve to reap the benefits.
From tomorrow for almost a week, you won’t know what day it is or whether you should be eating cheese or starting a diet. Don’t waste these next few days, let’s map out your best ever year and beyond. This is it. Play time is over. Let’s go.

One Idea to Win in Life
Something to Set Direction
Goal Setting Master Class, 2026 Locked and Loaded
Most people think goal setting is about picking things you want and hoping you stick to them. That’s why most goals quietly die by February. Goals only work when they sit inside a bigger system. On their own, they’re just wishes with admin. Think of your life like a journey. Your vision is the destination. Goals are the signposts along the way. If you haven’t set your vision from last week’s edition, go back and complete that first. A vision without goals is a destination with no plan to get there. Goals without a vision is aimlessly getting in a car and just simply “driving”.
So, here’s how to set goals properly.
Step 1. Struggle to write effective goals? Try this
Most people struggle to write goals, because they are unsure what they want to achieve. Don't worry, this is common. If this is you, try this exercise. Produce 2 written statements. First, your life 3-5 years from now, written in the present tense. This can be a full vision or a description of a perfect day. Second, your current situation, written honestly, and don’t sugar coat it.
Same word count for both. This creates contrast. And contrast creates the path forward.
Step 2. Do a gap check
Now compare the two. Look for contradictions. Skills you don’t have yet. Things you haven't achieved. Habits you need to build. Things you need to stop doing. This gap is where goals come from.
Goals should move you from where you are to the first checkpoint (your current reality) on the way to where you want to be (your 3-5 year vision).
Step 3. Write goals that can pass a pub quiz
Like the pub quiz, if you were to swap your goals with someone else at the end of the year, they should be able to tick or cross your results. I personally don’t like SMART objectives for annual goals. If every goal is “achievable” or “realistic” then it will mean you lead a small life. 20% of your goals should be possible, but slightly unrealistic. If you tell your goals to a friend and they roll their eyes or laugh at 2 of them, then good. Moon shots are allowed.
Step 4. Sort goals into pillars
Put your goals under simple pillars. I like to use 3, health, wealth, and self. This prevents you from winning in one area while neglecting the rest. No pillar should be empty.
Step 5. Know the type of goal
There are only two types. Pattern goals are habits and repeated behaviours. Project goals are one off outcomes. Separate them under each pillar. This is very important because you need to understand which goals will be achieved with repeated action, and which goals will be achieved with larger one-off effort.
This matters because they’re achieved differently.
Step 6. Track habits and plan projects
For your pattern-based goals, consider using a habit tracker. I use Habitify but there are others. For your project-based goals, list everything you need to do to achieve them and schedule those mini tasks.
Step 7. Pick a defining goal
Choose one goal that would define your year if you achieved it. Something hard. Something you’d be proud of. One year, one defining win. Prioritise the rest of your goals in order of importance. Not all goals are created equal.
Read your vision and goals at least once a week. Include the reading of them on your habit tracker. The more you read your vision and goals the more the subconscious decisions you make are altered. Your vision will pull you towards itself, your goals are the milestones on the journey.
Goals don’t change your life. The standards you follow do. It’s not about achieving the goals, it’s about becoming the person that achieves those goals. Hit reply with the one goal that would define your 2026 if you nailed it.
The “Won” Thing: Key Takeaway
🧠 Becoming the person who hits goals matters more than hitting them.
